Dexter Morgan - Michael C Hall by Rick-Kills-Pencils Dexter Morgan - Michael C Hall by Rick-Kills-Pencils
* Strathmore Bristol Smooth paper
* Approx 8 hours
* Approx 5x6 inches (13x15cm)
* Staedtler Mars Lumograph Pencils (both Wood & Clutch)
H, F, HB, B, 2B, 3B
* Loew Cornell Blending Stumps
* Kneaded Rubber Eraser
* Magnifying Glass

NOTE: I also used a large sewing needle mounted in a Clutch lead holder to scratch out the lines in his hair and small whiskers. Then when you go over it with a pencil, the lines magically appears (warning: practice first before you ruin your drawing)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I watched the first half of Season 1 of Dexter about 3 years ago. I recently joined Netflix.com and started watching Season 2. In the past 10 days, I watched Seasons 2, 3 & 4!!! When I get into a show, I really get into it! This is the reason it's been 2 weeks since my last drawing, ha! I'm the same way with LOST, 24 and most recently Breaking Bad. (Yes, Bryan Cranson is probably my next drawing). Season 5 of Dexter starts this fall, so I will probably have to order the Showtime channel so I can watch it?
For those who don't know the show, he is a Forensics Detective for the Miami Metro Police by day, and a vigilante serial killer by night. However, he only kills murderers.
This photo is from the Season 4 DVD cover. He has his new son Harrison on his shoulders, who dripped what appears to be blood on his face, but it's really juice. I had a little trouble with his mouth, because it's unusual? The photo also has a LOT of different light effects which made for more trouble. I also kinda rushed his shirt at the end, which I normally do. I don't like drawing clothes, as I'm sure you noticed? ;)
I hope you Dexter fans like it?!? :D:D
I can make it pitch black just an with an F, HB, B or 2B. I never go softer than that. It's the PAPER AND Overhand grip method that is critical. See my TIP GUIDE link below :D:D
Lots of ways to get proportions right. Measuring, grid paper, light boxes, reverse outlining with tracing paper on a window, etc x10, but all that will get you is an accurate LINE drawing (coloring book). THEN you must try to bring it to LIFE :D:D
