Duck Dynasty - The Quack Pack by Rick-Kills-Pencils Duck Dynasty - The Quack Pack by Rick-Kills-Pencils
NOTE: I ADDED A WATERMARK BECAUSE I AM SELLING PRINTS ON WWW.FINEARTAMERICA.COM HERE:fineartamerica.com/profiles/ri…

Duck Dynasty - ENLARGED VIEW is ACTUAL SIZE
This was too larger to scan as one piece, so I merged 2 scans together.
This is MUCH smaller than my typical drawing size, which I keep to about 5 to 6 inch faces.

SIZE 10 x 14 inches

Willie Robertson Phil Robertson Si Robertson Jase Robertson

These are the boys from A&E’s show Duck Dynasty. Top left is Willie Robertson with his dad Phil Robertson to the right. Bottom left is Phil’s brother and Willie’s uncle Si with Willie’s brother Jase Robertson.
This was by far my most challenging drawing that I have ever done. If I were to draw this based on my typical face size of between 5 and 6 inches, and factor in their facial hair, this should have taken me 40+ hours to complete, and I would have NEVER held on to completion. See my blog post regarding optimal size for drawing portraits here drpencil.wordpress.com/2012/07…

With that in mind, I decided to reduce that optimal size in half, and go with approximately 3 inch faces. It still took me between 20 and 25 hours, over the course of about 3 weeks, and I drew most of it under a magnifying glass. I wasn’t quite sure how to approach doing that much hair with all the beards, because typically I use an indenting technique, where you 1st scratch the paper with a stylus and then go over with graphite to create a rubbing type affect. See my blog post on this here drpencil.wordpress.com/2012/07…

Mike Sibley has been EXCELLENT article about indenting www.sibleyfineart.com/tutorial… His book “Drawing from Line to Life” is the ONLY drawing book that I own and covers every conceivable aspect of drawing and techniques. I highly recommend it!!! www.sibleyfineart.com/pencil-d…

I love the show Duck Dynasty because it’s about family, faith in God and a simple life living off the land. Plus my entire Family Tree is from the southern states, and I myself was born in Texas, so I have a lot of Southern pride. But these guys are just good old boys and except for their beards, their strong southern drawl accent reminds me of my friends and fraternity brothers in college, when I went to college in Georgia in the early 1980s.

This is so nice. I always thought they would be neat to draw with their beards. You did great.

Si broke it, blamed it on Jase, and then, Jase told Willie that Si broke it, and Willie got really angry. :XD:

What kind of paper did you use? Smooth or vellum?

Smooth, always. I wanted to use vellum, cuz it indenting shows up better, but not used to blending on it :D

You'll be meeting them soon, I'll bet, and they'll hang your drawings in their office. :)

Rick, did you use a reference for this? Or did you put these pictures together? I was just wondering because I seen T-shirts for sale recently in Gulf Shores Alabama with this on them. I couldn't tell if it was a photo or drawing because of the print quality on the T-shirts. (I should have taken a photo)
